Ireland Children’s Allowance 2024

The children’s allowance, part of the recently announced Cost of Living Allowance in the 2024 budget, involves a monthly deposit for parents or guardians of dependent children under 18. This support covers foster care and educational needs, with additional assistance for disabled children. Beneficiaries receive the allowance at the minimum rate, and recent regulations include changes to its distribution. As per the budget allocation, child benefits will now be provided as a double payment until the child reaches 18 or becomes independent.

Ireland Children’s Allowance Eligibility

To qualify for the allowance, there are specific eligibility criteria to meet. Parents must be permanent residents of the country and provide supporting documents for residency verification. In cases of shared custody, at least one spouse should be a resident in the country.

To qualify, one parent should have a work history, and tax returns for the previous year must be filed before the disbursement date. The family’s minimum income should fall below a certain threshold. For disabled applicants, provide supporting documents like medical history and prescriptions from relevant doctors as proof of disability.

  • Couple with a single child: €140
  • Family with two children: €210 for each child
  • Family with three or more children: €280 for each child

Weekly payments are an option, calculated by multiplying the amount by 12 and dividing by 52. Direct deposit is the method of distribution.

How to Apply for Ireland Children’s Allowance?

Parents must apply for child benefit before the birth or within 6 months of the child joining the family, specifying the month the family relocated to the country.

Upon a newborn’s arrival, registration with the Department of Social Protection occurs, assigning a unique Personal Public Service Number.

Access the allowance application form on the official MyWelfare portal. Provide necessary child details and submit required documents, including the birth certificate. Include personal information, contact details, and register for deposit receipt.

For families with existing allowance for the first child, update details for the second child in the same account, receiving individual amounts per child.

If the child is born outside Ireland or the allowance application is delayed beyond 3 months, apply using the Child Benefit Form (CB1) and send it to the Child Benefit section. Dependent children aged 16 to 17 should reapply using the CB2 form.
