The Whippet Inn
15 North St, York YO1 6JD
The Whippet Inn is a steak and ale restaurant that also serves excellent seafood. Being nestled away on North Street, it’s a bit of a hidden treasure, but once you’ve visited, you’ll want to go back. You are looked after by lovely, accommodating employees in a welcoming setting with elegant and eccentric design. The meal is delicious, creative, and of excellent quality.
Indulgences like “Picanha- 32 Day Dry Aged, Triple Cooked Chunky Chips, Garlic & Thyme Confit Vine Tomato, Green Peppercorn & Brandy Sauce” and “Poached Sea Trout Fillet with Olive Oil Potato, Puffed Fish Skin, Aromatic Herb Powder, Brown Shrimp Butter & Pea Purée” are available on the menu.
The Whippet Inn, which offers lunch and supper seven days a week, is the perfect place for any occasion. In addition to its Main Menu and Specials Boards, it also offers ‘Lets Get Roasted’ every Sunday, an institution unto itself and one of York’s best kept secrets (so sshh).

The Stone Trough Inn
Kirkham Abbey, York YO60 7JS
On the A64 heading towards Malton, the Stone Trough Inn in Kirkham Abbey is a rural inn located about 15 miles from York. A wonderful piece of land surrounds this sizable, classic, cosy tavern. It includes a sizable beer garden with beautiful scenery. Sunday supper is fantastic there!
“Nestled in a region of exceptional natural beauty, with a view of Kirkham Abbey. With its open fireplaces and exposed stone walls, our lovely bar has maintained much of its original charm. We have developed a reputation for serving up freshly prepared, regionally produced food together with a fantastic selection of Yorkshire brews and ales, all served up with a smile. Children and dogs are welcome.

The Star Inn The City
The Star Hotel The City is situated in the Museum Gardens, near to a stunning river. They’re more of a restaurant than a bar, despite admitting dogs. In order to create a food-driven celebration destination in one of York’s famous locations, the restaurant’s proprietors partnered with Andrew Pern of the Michelin-starred Star Inn at Harome when it debuted in 2013.
The restaurant immediately rose to prominence as a preferred location for special occasions including graduations, anniversaries, and birthday banquets. It sought to combine the best of God’s Own Country’s offerings with genuine Yorkshire warmth and its breathtaking surroundings. The Star Hotel The Star Inn The sibling restaurant of The City, The Harbour in Whitby serves both food from the Moors and seafood from Yorkshire’s coast and boasts the best harbour-side location in the coastal resort.
