Top 15 dog-friendly watering holes in Poole

Located on the coast of Dorset, Poole is close to the kilometres of sandy beaches that make up Bournemouth Bay. It is the largest natural harbour in Europe and is also home to a multitude of commerce and maritime heritage.

There are several dog-friendly beaches in the area, and after a long day of walking, you can relax with your pet at one of the 15 dog-friendly pubs in Poole.

The Rope & Anchor

The Rope & Anchor is one of our favourite dog-friendly watering holes in all of Dorset, and it’s conveniently located between the two museums.

It’s a simple watering hole with complimentary dog biscuits, delicious home-cooked meals, and a wide variety of excellent beer. The little beer garden is a sun trap and has live music most evenings.

The Crown Hotel

At the discretion of the manager, dogs are permitted in the bar and select guest rooms at The Crown. Due to the high volume of visitors on the weekend, dogs are not allowed.

The personnel here is among the nicest in town, and the cuisine is colourful and fresh, with presentation that rivals that of a piece of art.

The Yachtsman

The Yachtsman, a bar in Poole, welcomes dogs “like every great pub should,” and even has its very own pub dog named Stanley. The dog-friendly beach in front of Hamworthy Park is also a short walk away.

The Kings Head

A second dog-friendly Poole pub, The Rope & Anchor, is located just above The Kings Head. It’s been said that this quaint, terra cotta watering hole is the city’s oldest; it surely exudes plenty of history and personality.

The King Charles, another royally named watering hole, can be found immediately off the quay. The inside of this classic tavern is very rustic, and legend has claimed that ghosts lurk there, but all we could smell was the extensive alcohol choices behind the bar.

All ages of humans and dogs are allowed inside and in the outdoor seating area, however canines must be leashed at all times.

The Lord Nelson, like many of the other dog-friendly Poole bars on our list, is a Hall and Woodhouse establishment. There is a beautiful view of the harbour from the huge outdoor dining area, and you and your dog are more than welcome to cosy up next to the fireplace inside.

If your dog is timid and you arrive late, you might want to consider leaving him or her at home because this is one of the greatest places in town to hear live music.

The Antelope

As with many other establishments in the Greene King family, the Antelope welcomes canine and human patrons of all ages to its bar area. In addition to being conveniently located on the main drag, the hotel also offers a select number of guest rooms that are pet-friendly.
