Two mutations in the TYR gene account for the mink colorpoint, Siamese, and Burmese (sepia) coat and eye phenotypes in cats.

First, the albino phenotype, characterized by a white coat and blue eyes, is caused by a shortened version of the TYR protein, which is the result of a rare mutation in the TYR gene. In both the Burmese and the Siamese varieties, the albino mutation is recessive in nature.
