York’s Historic and Underground Core is home to a wide variety of restaurants serving up delicious fare. Lots of downtown establishments welcome dogs, from restaurants to watering holes. The Communication Coordinator for Downtown Inc, Hannah Beard, and her four-legged foodie partner, Groovy, will be going live on Downtown York’s Facebook page on May 1 in honour of Give Local York 2020 to promote the many dog-friendly establishments and to showcase the efforts of Downtown Inc in ensuring the growth and viability of the downtown business community.

Outdoor tables, water bowls, and plenty of pets from the friendly staff are available at many dog-friendly establishments, including Fig and Barrel, Revival Social Club, Holy Hound Taproom, and Mudhook Brewing Co. The Cantina has an expansive courtyard with party food, margaritas, and live music. In addition to excellent beer, Gift Horse features a spacious grass yard with picnic tables, live music, and cornhole.

Our Downtown York will reopen again, and we look forward to the day when we can enjoy these wonderful dining experiences with our four-legged friends, even though they are currently closed for domestic enjoyment due to COVID-19. Many establishments still offer delivery and curbside pickup until then.

The goal of Downtown Inc. is to promote and improve downtown investment in York, which benefits the development of the downtown restaurant scene. To achieve this goal, Downtown Inc. established the Downtown Bloom Grant Program to award money to local businesses to help them expand and prosper.

On May 1, all donations made to Downtown Inc. will be put into the Downtown Bloom Grant Fund, which will help more businesses thrive in York City. Seven shops in Downtown York received 2019 Downtown Inc Bloom Grants. Visit this link to learn more about Downtown Inc and their participation in Give Local York.

Join Hannah and Groovy on the Downtown Inc Facebook page on May 1 at 12:00pm to learn about dog-friendly dining options in Downtown York and the continued efforts of Downtown Inc.
