York is a popular weekend getaway since it is full with Roman and Viking history, a thriving street food scene, amazing culture, and a number of wonderful places to go for a drink.

York is known for its welcoming attitude toward pets, so after a day of sightseeing or a stroll along the River Ouse, one of our favorite hikes in Yorkshire, you and your four-legged companion can relax in one of the city’s many dog-friendly pubs.

YE OLDE STARRE INNE

This charming bar is reportedly haunted and has a long history. In York, it is the pub with the longest continuous licence. It is hidden away in a side alley off the main strip because it has been in operation longer than any of the adjacent companies.

The Minster is next to York’s oldest inn, Ye Olde Starre Inne, which is also the oldest bar in the city. For the people, there are meals and real ales, while for the dogs, there are water basins and biscuits.

VALHALLA

Valhalla is a must-see if you’re in York for the Viking heritage or just want to do something a little out of the ordinary. Mead, in addition to the standard alcoholic beverages, is available in this cafe/bar. The shields that are posted on the walls and ceiling give the room the atmosphere of a drinking hall.

And just as dogs of the Viking era would accompany their masters into Valhalla, so too can you bring your own furry friend with you to the Valhalla bar, where he or she will be showered with praise and a bowl of water.
