The Whippet Inn
15 North St, York YO1 6JD
Apart from excellent steak and beer, the Whippet Inn also serves fresh fish. Somewhat out of the way on North Street, it is still a must-visit destination once experienced. You will be well taken care of by the lovely and helpful personnel at this casual, contemporary establishment. The menu items are delicious, unique, and freshly prepared.
Dishes like “Picanha—32 Day Dry Aged, Triple Cooked Chunky Chips, Garlic & Thyme Confit Vine Tomato, Green Peppercorn & Brandy Sauce” and “Poached Sea Trout Fillet with Olive Oil Potato, Puffed Fish Skin, Aromatic Herb Powder, Brown Shrimp Butter & Pea Purée” can be found on the menu.
The Whippet Inn is “the ideal spot for any occasion,” as their website puts it: “We serve lunch and dinner, seven days a week, and in addition to our Main Menu and specials boards, we also offer our legendary(ish) Set Price lunch menu Monday through Friday, as well as ‘Lets Get Roasted’ every Sunday, an institution unto itself and one of York’s best kept secrets (so sshhh).”
The Old Bank – Dog friendly pub in York
6-12 Lendal, York YO1 8AA
Just down the street from the Judges’ Lodgings on Lendal stands the Old Bank. The hotel has recently reopened following a major renovation, and the furnishings are contemporary and cosy. Some booths include TVs, power outlets, and USB chargers, making it an excellent place for kids and adults alike to recharge over lunch. Fantastic low-priced choice.
They even have a Facebook group for “pub puppies” who are in town on vacation with their dogs.
The Stone Trough Inn
Kirkham Abbey, York YO60 7JS
JS
Around fifteen miles west of York, on the A64 to Malton, lies the Stone Trough Inn near Kirkham Abbey. The bar is a huge, cosy, traditional one and it’s located in a stunning rural area. It boasts an expansive beer garden with picture-perfect vistas. Sunday dinners here are to die for.
“Situated on a hilltop with breathtaking views of Kirkham Abbey and its surrounding landscape. Open fireplaces and exposed stone walls are two of the many historic features of our magnificent bar. We are known for our delicious home-cooked meals, obtained from nearby farms and markets, and our extensive selection of fine Yorkshire brews and ales served with a smile. Families with pets and little ones are encouraged to visit.

City’s The Star Inn
The Star Inn is there. A beautiful backdrop for the City is provided by the Museum Gardens and the Riverfront. Canine friends are allowed in this restaurant, which is more of a dining spot than a bar. In 2013, the building’s owners and Andrew Pern, formerly of the Michelin-starred Star Inn at Harome, collaborated to develop a Brasserie-style restaurant in one of York’s most scenic settings as a place for food-focused celebrations.
The restaurant has been a popular choice for important occasions like proms, graduations, and wedding receptions because of its mission to enhance the picturesque setting with the best products that God’s Own Country has to offer and genuine Yorkshire friendliness. The Star Inn is there. The Star Hotel The Harbour, The City’s sibling restaurant in Whitby, has the best harbor-side location in the resort town and serves mouthwatering fish and seafood from the Yorkshire coast as well as Middle Eastern specialties.
